What seems to be the most successful method of catching bass is the crank bait. Fish seem to love these types of lures. There are some professionals who will disagree with this, but many other professionals and many other bass fishermen only use crank baits.

Many people claim that fishing with all other lures have not quite given them the results that the crank bait has. In calm and clear water bass seem to prefer a more regular and steady retrieve that has no sudden movement. But in choppy water they more prefer a faster and more irregular retrieve. It is good to remember that sometimes you will have to experiment to see what best suites you.

Bass seem to love colorful lures and hit these types of lures far more often then others. Some people have the opinion that lures that look bright make them mad enough to attack. So, casting over and over into an area where you know the bass are, will make them attack eventually. The bass do not like lures bothering them repeatedly. It is a good idea to buy a lure that has both natural and bright colors. Having both these extremes makes a lure like this extremely effective when learning how to bass fish. Using a bait scent usually improves the strike ratio and many professionals are firm believers in this tactic. When fishing with crank bait lures, try to make them look natural in the water.
