How to Fix a Scratched CD or DVD in Under 10 Minutes

How to Remove CD Scratches (works on DVDs as well)

All you need is some peanut butter, toothpaste, baking soda, a can of soda, paper towels, and a small plastic food container. I’ve heard that you can polish them out with toothpaste, which sometimes works if they’re just minor scratches, but in my experience that won’t get the deeper ones.

THIS will (I just tried it on my Bourne Supremacy DVD that’s been skipping a bunch, worked great when other stuff didn’t). Also note that you should make sure the damned thing isn’t just dirty instead of scratched so you don’t do this unnecessarily, it could just be dust. Have a look:

If you want what the pros use–maybe this didn’t work for you (the scratches are REALLY deep) or you’ve got a LOT of DVDs/CDs to repair–then you’ll want a motorized DVD/CD skip-repairer like this.
