Hello! My name is Andrew and I’m a Windows developer for over 11 years. I wrote this article because my friends and family keep asking the same questions above again and again…
But my answer is always the same: “Slow PC performance is the result of spywares, adwares and other junk that’s made it’s way onto your PC over the course of time.”
Unfortunately, installing an anti-virus program on your PC is not enough to prevent this kind of PC/Windows problems to occur.
In fact, new PCs come loaded with applications that may contain adwares or spywares right from the manufacturer! And a lot of “free” softwares downloaded from the Internet actually contain malwares that could cause issues to your computer… For example, online games, torrents and other multimedia utilities.
The reasons for your PC to be slow are well known: lack of memory or processor power. But the majority of problems come from software or your Windows operating system itself.
The good news is that there’s a lot you can do about that…
1. The Manual Way
A tool like HiJackThis could help you manually ‘clean’ your Windows Registry and help speed up your PC. BUT BE CAREFUL! Although this tool can be really effective, it’s definitely for experienced users ONLY!

First, determine the kind of PC you have. If it’s fairly new:
- less than 5 years old
- running Windows XP/Vista/7
- has at least 512MB of memory
